HEAR NATURE is an interdisciplinary project focussed on listening, nature connectedness, sounds of nature, science, music technology, creativity and wellbeing. The following resources have been developed via two strands focussing primarily on WATER and SOIL.
Practical workshops were devised and delivered by Kathy Hinde, Jill Parsons and Matthew Olden as part of a research project led by Professor of Music, Amanda Bayley at Bath Spa University, freshwater ecologist Dr Ian Thornhill at the University of Manchester, and soil scientist Dr Sam Bonnett at the University of the West of England, Bristol in collaboration with IMAYLA and Avon Schools Eco Network.

The HEAR WATER workshops have been further developed by Joanna Gill and Lily Paylor-Sykes into a series of lesson plans based on the UK music curriculum for years 3-4 and 5-6. These lesson plans are aimed to be useful to both teachers with and without a music specialism, and to provide structured plans for outdoor learning, and access to easy-to-use creative music technology lessons.
HEAR WATER and HEAR SOIL have been supported by funding from the Natural Environment Research Council (2022) and a Bath Spa University Impact Accelerator Award, from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (2023-24).
